EXCLUSIVE INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE PRESENTATION (DAY ONE)

INMON VS KIMBALL – ARCHITECTURE REDUX

For years there have been discussions and debates about the different approaches for building the data warehouse – the dimensional model approach versus the DW 2.0 model. But there has never been a discussion in public on the two approaches – until now!

The Kimball, dimensional modeling architecture is good for producing fast reports. The Inmon DW 2.0 architecture is good for producing corporate data where there is a single version of the truth. While there are some similarities, there are some important differences. This presentation addresses the places where each architectural approach fits - and discusses where the different architectures do not fit well.

Based on the white paper: A TALE OF TWO ARCHITECTURES, Inmoncif.com – this presentation is being given in the Southern Hemisphere for the first time ever – exclusively for Enterprise IQ.

EXCLUSIVE INTERNATIONAL KEYNOTE PRESENTATION (DAY TWO)

THE RISE OF TEXTUAL BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE

First there was the data warehouse. Then came Business Intelligence. Then organisations discovered that they could meaningfully and usefully place textual data inside a data warehouse. And with the placement of text inside a data warehouse came the revelation that classical Business Intelligence worked on some text and not on other text.

This presentation addresses a new form of Business Intelligence that is designed specifically for an unstructured data warehouse.

BUSINESS IN THE BIG DATA AGE – DRIVING BUSINESS SUCCESS WITH BI & DW2.0
Big Data is about getting creative – it’s about leveraging the technology, and it’s everywhere… There are methods to harness this data in productive ways. I’ve found tremendous demand out there at the Executive level for leveraging this.” John Webster, Co-Author “ INESCAPABLE DATA”
In May 2011, McKinsey Global Institute released a major research report titled - “Big Data: The Next Frontier for Innovation, Competition and Productivity”. The report found that Big Data is rapidly becoming a fundamental basis for business competition, underpinning new waves of productivity growth, innovation and consumer surplus. Leaders in every sector will now have to grapple with the implications of Big Data – not just a few data-oriented managers. The report went on to forecast that “the increasing volume and detail of information captured by enterprises, the rise of multimedia, social media and the Internet of Things will fuel exponential growth in data for the foreseeable future”.
In the first of the eIQ Think Tank sessions, our panel of experts will consider and discuss the key implications, challenges and opportunities for business innovation, competition and productivity in the Big Data Age. Particular attention will be paid to the role of Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence and Analytics – and how these technologies and practices will be fundamental to current and future business success.

KEYNOTE PRESENTATION

STRATEGIES & SOLUTIONS TO TRANSFORM BIG DATA INTO PERFORMANCE ENHANCING INSIGHTS

Big Data presents enterprises with unprecedented challenges as well as opportunities – forcing them to rethink how best to manage and derive value from the quantum explosion of data in their systems. In this new business paradigm, success will go to those enterprises who are most adept at harnessing and harvesting these assets to generate performance-enhancing business insights. On Oct 12th, Microsoft unveiled SQL Server 2012 together with a roadmap of specific investments supporting Microsoft’s Big Data strategy. The Microsoft and Avanade Alliance extends the mission to provide business insight to all users from any data - including unstructured data that has not previously been activated - ultimately enabling organisations to gain greater business and economic value from their data assets.

This session will delve deep into the roadmap and discuss integrated, cost effective solutions for consolidating thousands of database servers and delivering BI to all users.  The roadmap also shows how companies can build scalable enterprise data warehouses that allow them to increase speed of time-to-market and identify highest–value opportunities derived from smart data interpretation.

CASE STUDY PRESENTATION

ACTIONING INSIGHT AT MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY

Macquarie set itself the goal of being recognised amongst the world’s top 200 universities and Australia’s top eight Higher Education research hubs by 2014. To realise this goal, Macquarie needed to obtain a deep understanding of its performance based on key information sets and the ability to share this information with a wide audience of strategic decision makers. These are three key data sets that universities throughout Australia use to report to the government regulators to explain or justify performance, which are directly linked to domestic funding and to student experience. They are also the three most critical data sets for government reporting and for providing the people at Macquarie with the information they need to offer the best services possible and develop winning research, teaching and business strategies.

The challenge at a University is getting this information out to a wide audience, located in many different places, all using different technologies to access information. The solution required a web-based collaborative BI platform that could service any device anywhere in an easy to use and visually interactive way. On the 18th of May 2011, they launched Datamart. This is the first of a suite of products at Macquarie University for data analytics, reporting and collaboration to improve precision, alignment and accuracy.

THE RISE OF MOBILE BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE

Traditional approaches to BI are no longer relevant when it comes to the new generation of data sources. The need for mobility and analytics on demand require a deeper focus on scalability, usability and affordability.  This discussion will talk about how the demand for ready access to accurate and timely information within organisations has outstripped the capability of traditional BI solutions. Most organisations today are being more strategic to choose technology partners as their “friends” to provide a common, user owned and operated environment to drive a deeper understanding and drive quicker, better data driven decisions for both their internal and external information consumers.  In this session, we will discuss:

  • Social Intelligence : Social Media as a very powerful data source and marketing sentiment analysis environment as well as lowest total cost of ownership CRM
  • Mobile Intelligence : The ability to access important information anytime, anywhere and from virtually any device whilst eliminating data duplication
  • BIG Data – more data , more data sources, more relevancy
  • Personal Cloud – why is Excel such a popular analytical environment – because everyone has access to their own little world - Microstrategy Personal Cloud provides a more robust and non disposable staging area from proof of concept right through to production systems.
